What should I do if the product seems different from its description?

Keep a record of when you noticed and reported the issue. Use the current order's description rather than assumptions from an earlier purchase.

How can I find out whether a special request can be accommodated?

Describe the specific adjustment you need before assuming it is part of the offer. Do not treat a general willingness to help as acceptance of a particular specification.

How can I check an existing order's status without submitting another purchase?

Use the order reference from the original confirmation. A payment state and a fulfillment state may answer different questions.
